Well might be a little overkill here .. but if Dad had given me a Bike would keep it forever. What I would do is New tires, Flush and change all fluids including thorough bleeding of the Brakes .. Replace all the Brake Lines and All Cables with Stainless. Look at the Brakes thoroughly any doubt replace the pads.. Clean the Carb and replace the hose from the Petcock..

Definitely get it checked out end to end. Don't bother looking at the tires-just replace them, sitting 5 years they are rotted. Might not see it but you will feel it in the ride. I AM SO JEALOUS.
+1 ABSOLUTLY!!!! any rubber should be suspect... tires - lines etc, Have a wrench you know and trust go over everything, drain any fluid on the bike and replace. If there was any gas in the carb, you'll likely need a major cleaning, as it's turned to gunk/varnish by now, and the jets are gummed up.
good luck, and welcome from Raleigh

I agree entirely. Better safe than sorry.
Congrats on the bike.

Welcome to the Forum from New York, if you don't plan to do any of the wrenching yourself I would make an appointment at a local shop and toe it straight there let them do the fluid change and check it out from top to bottom, any good shop if you tell them that it was sitting will not what needs to be done.

Change all the fluids, gas, plugs and check the battery. It may be worth it to have a H-D mechanic go through it (lube cables, check clutch, etc.). Nice gift from Dad...Wish you luck!
