Noob here in AZ Ducati to Harley
Hello Guys,
Making the switch from Ducati to Harley.
A little about me.
I've been a BMW guy for the past few years. BUilt a r90/6 had a R100RS and a R65. Also own a few older honda CB500 73' and a couple cb200's. Currently I got am riding a Ducati Monster 900. I just like motorcycles. All of them. If it has two wheels then I probably dig it. My reasoning for going from Ducati to Harley is touring. The BMW's are great touring bikes. Reliable and easy to work on. On top of all that there is a great community of BMW owners. However, I'll be honest, they are kind of boring. I've always liked Harleys, more particular the Sportster. I love the sound and I've often seen people touring on them, and the most obvious is the huge community.
Currently Im trying to sale and or trade a to get a sportster. I have a few offers. The one i like most is a 04 sportster however it does have 40k miles. Im not sure if that is high or not. The owner comes off as responsible and loves Harleys. He used it to get to work for years. 90 mile round trip. ON a BMW this would be warming it up, however I'm not keen on Harleys. is there anything to look out for? is 2004 a good year? I understand that was the first year with rubber mounts. I have no idea if that is good or bad. Please feel free to give me some feedback..
The Ducati is an amazing bike, great for city riding, but I could not imagine doing 400 mile days on it. Just not designed for it.
Thanks
T

welcome from NorCal
For me I see a lot more on the road on the Harley then on the Ducati. My olds son came to the house with one, yes I love fast it is genetic disease, the throttle has to go to the stops. I returned form a short 10mile ride and said do not let me on that thing agin. He's wife tolled him to fined it a new home for it, he has the same problem. It is genetics disorder. But for the rubber mount engines you don't have to use red locktite blue is good enough.
