AAC is the Apple version of MP3. The new iTunes defaults to that but you can still change to MP3. I just did it a few weeks back. You have to go into settings somewhere and change it to default to MP3 rips. I used the help function and Google to figure it out. I'm not in front of the Mac right now so can't tell you exactly what I did, but it was a straight forward and easy change.

I've just recently switched over to SD cards/thumb drives. I am in the process of putting all my songs on one or two drives. I have over 10 thousand songs on 45's - 78's - 33's - cassettes and CD's. Those drives will never leave the house. I will copy certain songs to smaller individual drives of no more then 30 or 40 songs on each. That should last for one trip before needing gas or stretching my legs, at which time I'll switch drives.
Back in the day I use to record all my new 45's and 33's onto reel to reel tapes to preserve them. Boy have times changed.
I am always looking for smaller capacity SD cards or thumb drives (cheap) - somewhere around 512MB or smaller. Will even be willing to trade my high capacity drives for smaller SD cards/drives.
I am very sorry to see the CD player bite the dust - it was my favorite medium.

Best Buy has 32gb sticks for ~$12.99,
they are USB 2.0 standard (slow to copy)
3.0 sticks were like $54, not sure if the faster time would help the OEM radio do better.
i got a LOT of songs on that stick, and it was not full when I got tired of copying MP3's
I did notice today, the song name on the screen, did not match the song playing, but I did not let it search the whole stick the first time I plugged it in.
will unplug it tomorrow, and plug it back in to clear that up, hopefully

I found that out too. I thought I was the only one and I made the mistake of entering the wrong title - now I'm not so sure.
