Default learning lessons the hard way...

so, about 2 months ago, i swapped out my stock bars for some 13" prime apes. love them. but, being a novice, you find that there are certain times that you should request the advice from some pros. i thought i would save myself a good bit of time on the install by just running the wiring on the outside (zip tied to the bars, just like the stock ones). that worked just fine....all the way until last weekend. as i'm riding down the road, suddenly my entire dash, gauges, radio, everything...just cuts off. bike is still running...just had no dash. couldn't figure out what the problem was until i hit a bump....then everything cuts back on. so as I'm riding, i start fidgeting with wires and buttons...bingo. so, i guess when putting it all back together i must have pinched the harness on the mirror bracket. had to take it over to a buddy's house that i was close to at that time and we just pulled it apart, soldered the wires and very loosly tightened the mirror bracket back on. it got me home, but i get to tear the whole front end down again this weekend and do what i should have done in the first place and run them internal. so, if there are any other novices out there looking to do their own bars...don't be afraid to do it...it's stupid easy...just do it RIGHT the first time.

Pinched wires, inside or outside the bars is the biggest problem with changing bars.

Good luck,
Mike
