Default left handlebar options button, how to remove?

I am repacing my handlebar switch covers with chromes ones. The right one was pretty straight forward. The repair manual tells you to remove the front cover then pup the options button (the one on top in the back by the lever) and then slide it out. I popped it up however when I try to slide it out it is not coming out easily. I am reluctant to push any harder with a screwdrive becasue I don't want to break it and the switches are expensive to replace.
So how do I get left handlebar options button out, how to remove?

Pull the button up gently with a screwdriver. Then with your fingers only, pull it backwards towards the handlebar grip. It will take a little force, but only with your fingers, don't use a screwdriver. I just replaced my handlebars and had the same issue. Be careful, but it should slid off.

After you lift it up slide it to the left. it looks like this [ ] so looking through the brackets is to your left. Surprisingly you won't break it. I thought so too. Just do it.
