HD standard oils are fine not much difference in any of them really. My 1996 FB has run on HD stuff it's enter life still runs fine today. No major work at all on it yet.

My mechanic recommends against synthetic, goes against everything I was told in lubrication training, but it's hard to argue with what's worked for years. He said synthetic is too slick and bearings slide and lose boundary lubrication.

These oil discussions will basically end up recommending every brand out there because of one factor or another, recommended by, cost, been running brand xxx for 100,000 miles, its all the same etc.

I'm using Genuine (lol), HD 20W50 engine oil, why? Because the HD tech who tuned and dynoed my bike and the service manager told me that All of the techs in the shop use it. Change it every 3000 miles with the filter, Belray trans, and Formula plus in the primary.

Both said you can use synthetic, but based on our experience and what we see, we recommend and we all use non syn HD 20W50 etc..... they also said you can pay more for the syn but why would you do that. But do change it every 3K.

So that is my true story, no science, documents etc. links just what the HD service recommended.

I change all the oil, do the air filter etc., myself, and my short 4500 mile experience with the SGS: HD engine oil, Belray trans, and Formula plus primary is good; engine, trans, shifting sounds, feels good and haven't had to add anything.

Good luck sorting thru everyone's opinion.
