Successful 4.3 Boom install on FLHTP
Howdy Gents,
I purchased my first Harley (2014 FLHTP Police) a few weeks back and have been seeking radio options for the bike. I wanted to use the factory Harley hand controls, but could not find many folks that had installed the stock Harley 4.3 boom system on the FLHTP. So I purchased a set of manuals and started investigating this option.
Wiring-wise, just about everything is already there. The inner fairing harness just needs a few extra pins added to the connectors, and you need the Molex CMC 48 pin connector for the radio. Everything pretty much wires right into the factory harness if you want to stick to the two speaker system.
Placed an order into Mouser Electronics for a Molex CMC 48 pin plug (64325-1010), along with the required 64322-1039 and 64323-1029 pin sets to build the radio harness, shopped Ebay for a 4.3 boom radio and a set of standard street glide hand controls, and Crutchfields for the Infinity Kappa 62.11i speakers. Kutter's provided the hidden radio antenna and upgraded Boom grills.
Everything went together nicely, just like factory. The only question everyone seem to have was related to the Canbus system. I'm not sure what it is exactly, as everything on the bike seems to be daisy-chained together on the same bus. Also, checking the prints, the only real questionable difference is really the BCM unit, but the part numbers for the standard street glide and the FLHTP are the same. So this was my only concern. I plugged the Canbus to the radio into the same connectors on the inner fairing harness (added pins) that are listed for the Street Glide/Electra Glide bikes.
Tonight was the test. Wired everything in, installed the fuse in the radio slot in the fusebox, turned on the switch. We have sound! Everything seems to work as is should, hand controls work fine as well.
So anyone questioning whether this is doable or not, it actually turned out to be quite easy. I still need to ride the bike once the snow melts to get a good feel on how it sounds, but the garage test seems fine.
Maybe no one goes this route because they don't like the radio, but I wanted the factory setup. Bluetooth pairs fine, Pandora streams fine as well. I need to learn all the options with the hand controls, but preliminary testing seems to be all good at this point.
Just one question I'd like to ask those guys that have installed the Infinity Kappa speakers. Did you mount the speakers on the outside or inside of the speaker pods? I installed the upgraded Boom 2 grills, be even still it is a tight fit with the speakers mounted on the outside of the pods. Just wonder if I should move them to the inside for more space.

Ok dove in on this project. Bought 4.3 Boom and stock speakers from Ebay, and a set of take off flhx hand controls from a fellow forum member. Well now it is time to build the wiring harness. Will not be getting my bike from storage until next weekend. What parts and at what quantity do I need these pin sets, also what gauge wire did you use for this harness. I have the 2014 touring service manual, but it doesn't give me any info on the police models when dealing with electrical. Any insight on the matter will be greatly appreciated.
