Default Heated Grip Install

Any good info on heated grip install (2014 Ultra Classic)? I know LAB sells instructions for $34.95. The instructions that came with seem a little vague. Any advice/help would be appreciated.

wrench I have purchased the H-D grips. How was the install for you? The instructions don't seem that great.

I installed the H-D grips to 2015 FLHXS. Right side is very easy, just remove the old one and connect the wire in to the existing connector at the end of the bar.
Left side is more complicated, you have to run the wires inside the handlebar and take them out in the opening in the middle of the bars. Then you have to find the connector where you connect the other wire and the other wire with the provided extension wire goes to the cigarette lighter connector. I took outer fairing and the ignition switch and the plastic cover out and then I managed to route the wires out of the handlebar and make the connections. Hope this helps.

Not worth the effort! So much hassle with TBW it makes it a super PITA.
I too removed my ignition switch and some how managed to screw that up [taken them out before] and had to buy a $90 ignition alignment tool. Got it back together and it still has no power and all fuses are good.
Dealer is the next stop so I may very well have $5-600 dollars wrapped up in hand warmers that I still will not have. I'm pretty good at fixing things but these new bikes are like new cars, open the hood and go "yep there is an engine there somewhere" and slam it back shut.

You may be making the same mistake I have made with the ignition switch. When I reinstalled it, I had pushed it too far down. The catch was under the collar, not in the channel to retain it.

Default Heated grips, red this thread

I commented on this post but you can see it for yourself. While I do most of my own work on the bike, this is the one install I would never try again myself. It's worth the money to let the dealer install them--that way if there's a problem the grips and install are warranteed. In short, did the install myself, after a few weeks, one side stopped working and despite hours and hours of troubleshooting, still couldn't get them to work. Had to have the dealer fix them and it ended up costing more than if I'd just let them do it in the first place. Since then, I've talked to a lot of riders who had the same experience installing themselves.

Took my bike to an indy I know and he pulled the switch out and took it apart. He found a very small piece of plastic broken off that allowed the power part of the switch to operate. After doing some machining on the mill he fixed it to perfect working condition. Total cost $75 bucks.
If I would have taken this to the dealer they would have just replaced the switch which is a mere $350 bucks + 1 hr. minimum labor.
I gave him the $90 ignition switch alignment tool which I can use at anytime, I was just grateful he got it working.
So all in all I got $290 wrapped up in hand warmers that sit on the shelf.
This is just one of those clusters that got worse by the moment. I usually don't have these kind of problems!

Got the grips install done couple days ago, not too bad a job. I removed the radio to fish the wires through the left bar. The throttle side is a piece of cake already pre wired.
