MPG on RK at speed
It seems that my RK drinks gas like crazy at 80-85MPH on the highway. When I don't exceed 70 too much on a tank, I've gotten 42-44MPG. Last tank riding to work at odd hours, going over 80MPH most of the time, it has dropped to 34-35MPG. Is that right??
I've never noticed a big difference riding my Night Rod (with no windshield though) weather it was 60 or 90. I'm going to try a full tank without the shield just to see if there is a big difference...

Generally only ridding 50 to 65 on the back roads, no traffic, good sight seeing etc., i''m generally on the road less traveled, 48 mpg and that's going thru the gears a few times during the ride.
But the only place to go faster is on the interstates and of my close to 6000 miles on the bike about 25 miles are on the interstate.

While I don't have an RK...my Ultra Classic was getting 34 cruise set at 80 coming back from L.A. to I.N. and windy. Pulled the plugs and the front looked a bit rich.
Had an old set of SE triple platinum with 20k on them from my Sportster.
Now running 80-85 on a windy day and getting 40. Ya I was surprised.
Back road twisties high as 48, WV mountains running 80 low of 39.
Not saying the SE TP plugs caused the increase, but the front plug with 4k on it must have gone south

Thanks for all the replies, I didn't realize the speed would make such a difference but I guess it makes sense I find my RK very comfortable cruising at those speeds so it's hard to slow down, especially on a ride to/from work...
Can't wait to get her out on a weekend trip and test the long-term comfort!
