Default High pitch whine ????

I've got a a 2015 cvo road glide. I'm out at Sturgis enjoying the ride and today I noticed a high pitch whine. It seems to do it mostly on decel and and coasting, it stops doing it when I pull in the clutch. Doesn't do it while idling ? Hard to tell where it's coming from because it only does it while I'm riding . Any guesses ?

If i understand you correctly it may be because your in 1st gear. It will probably be be answered in more detail from someone else but it's that 1st is cut different then the other gears.

First gear only? They all whine in first gear, I think something to do with the way the gears are cut....

Yes girlfriend on the back. She rides with me a lot. I don't think she will be willing to run along side to see if she can here where it's coming from Just finished eating . I'll take I for another ride for some more testing .

You may have missed the point of his question. But then again, maybe not.

First and fifth are straight cut or spur gears. The others are helical or they are cut at angles. Straight cut gears are noisy. If you've ever owned an evo, you probably noticed it coming from the cam compartment, as they are gear driven.

My 15 CVO Road Glide does the same thing. I don't think it's anything to be concerned about. I also think it's the straight cut gears. Red Line shockproof heavy in the trans will make it a little quieter but won't eliminate it.

Ok, rode it back after dinner and I have to change my story. It does it in 1st 2nd and 3rd but I also noticed right when I start to accelerate I hear a bit of a rattle. I'm thinking it might be a heat shield. Instead of a whine it might be a very rapid Tinney rattle on decel and it on accel it is just a more pronounced rattle . In the morning after it cools down ill check the exhaust out and see if there is anything loose or rubbing.
