I would call fuel moto and ask them. They have always been very helpful. I can't imagine you would leave the plastic on and have it burn off. That would be a god awful smell and mess I would suspect.

If you get a hot spot from the plastic burning up it may discolor your muffler.

The plastic wrap is used on the competition baffles to secure the sound insulation material and allows for much easier installation. This wrap simply disperses into the packing once the motor is started and allows for much more densely packing of the muffler. Simply slide the baffles in, tighten the bolt and you are ready to roll.
