Looks like I may not be riding my new Rushmore anytime soon
My wife and I got out of Fort McMurray yesterday after tracking down my 84 year old mother in a work camp north of the city. We got out safely with the shirts on our backs and our dogs. Everything we own has been left behind as our city of over 80,000 has been totally evacuated. They have now expanded the evacuation to nearby communities as well. The oil plants are shutting down operations so now we all may be without jobs too. Many of my friends have already lost their homes. Mine is still standing as I can call home and the answering machine comes on. There are complete subdivisions that are no longer there and they still cannot stop it as it is too big and the area is too dry. One of the national banks estimate the damage at 9 billion dollars. At this point we are happy to be safe, but are in shock and totally mentally and physically spent. Our future is unknown. Here is one little video one guy took with his dash cam getting out.....

When they had the fires in San Diego, we experienced this, but not as bad or intense.
To this day I never let my fuel tank go below 1/2 (gas stations are closed due to no electricity to pump), a face mask in my glove box and an extra vehicle air filter in the garage. (they clog up fast in the smoke).
Heartfelt concern for all effected.

Prayers going out to you and your family Super08 from a brother in Edmonton.
I stopped by the Food Bank yesterday with a few bags of groceries and saw many others doing the same. That's one thing about us Albertans, we're tough and we pull together in times like this.
If there's anything at all I can do to help you personally, please send me a PM.
