Has your shifter shaft stripped yet?

I'm not quite understanding where this problem is. Anyone have a pic of the spot where it's happening? Is this a problem with the shift levers or the shaft they are attached to? Is the replacement part any better than the original one? I checked my shifters and the whole assembly seems to wobble a bit. Not sure if that's normal. This would suck if I'm out in the desolate desert on a 110 degree day. Lots of times I ride these desert back roads and don't see another vehicle for 35 miles or so. I can see the buzzards circling already.

Right around 7500 miles just outside of Lordsburg NM on I-10, not fun. And I checked the torque on the fastener before leaving on that trip, threw the torque wrench on it and it went click immediately.
What I found was the bolt threads had been flat spotted right in the middle of the fastener where it sets in the valley. This allows the threads to work themselves over the splines and damaging them in the process as the gear shift lever works itself sideways.
My best guess is that the bolt is being over torqued at the plant, causing the threads in the center portion of the bolt to be pulled against the valley floor and flattening them, then over time the through vibration and use the lever begins working itself sideways allowing threads to side over splines.

Not true in my case - unless of course the dealer did not check the torque when they serviced it before they sold it to me...

Mine had nothing to do with torqued screws. The spline on the inner end of shaft stripped. It would not grab the shifter linkage arm. Dealer had no time to help me for a couple of days for a ten minute job. I'm sure it's made from softer material than the shifter shaft on my 08 which had 100000 on it when I got rid of it with no problem with shaft. It is a nusance when it fails.
