Has your shifter shaft stripped yet?

My '13 had this happen when I was on the way back to Texas from the Rocky Point Rally. I was in the middle of nowhere. It stripped on the inside at the linkage. Luckily another rider came along in a work truck and helped me figure out what it was and we used a little southern american ingenuity to rig something up so I could limp home.
Now I carry an extra gear lever shaft with me. I also took off my heel shifter because I found that I tend to stomp on it more than I do my toe shifter. I figure that has something to do with stripping it out.

In a one year period I had two bikes shot out from under me by Drunk Drivers.. So, I had two 14's off the showroom floor... Both had the same problem within 3 thousand miles. I believe it's a manufacture malfunction. Whom ever or what ever is used to tighten the bolt on the inside of the shaft next to the engine is malfunctioning... Tightening it myself I understand why. It's hard to get to. On both bikes it came apart while I was riding. After it happened on the first bike I remembered a couple of times it feeling funny when I shifted, so when it started happening on the second time I caught it early and was able to tap it back together and limp to the dealer. I exclusively use the heel shifter which I'm sure put's a lot more stress in it as I tap hard with my heel.

Yup my stripped last year on 2014 Limited with about 16000 miles on bike. On a rode trip coming back from the Ozarks. Nearby dealer in Kentucky would not do it for a couple of days so I just bought the damn shaft and replaced it myself at the front of the Best Western.

You gotta be kidding!!
Uh, you're forgetting that that would set the MOCO back about 5 cents per bike. No way they'd spend (waste?) that kind of cash to make their bikes more reliable and durable for the customers who keep their sorry asses in business!!

After I got the bike home from the dealer, I pulled the all the shifter bolts out, added blue locktite and re-torqued them to spec (also added an extended heel shifter). Every time I take something lose or add something, I add locktite and cinch it back down. Motorcycles vibrate a lot, locktite is your friend. Nothing fallen off or loose in almost 10,000 miles this year.
