Default Possible Issue Cooling System

Two possible issues, and two questions.

First: Are the cooling fans supposed to kick on after a ride and you sheet the bike off ? I've never heard mine come on.

Second: Between 0 and 1,000 miles, I checked the coolant level a couple of times. It seemed fine. Took the bike in for the 1,000 mile service and after I brought it home, I checked and there was barely any coolant in the reservoir. No obvious signs of leakage in my garage. So, I filled it up to the line and took it out for about a fifty mile ride. Checked it again, and it was low. Again, no obvious sign of leakage. Where the heck is the coolant going ?

I've never had the check engine light come on or a high temp warning light come on. Bike rides fine.

Read the manual . Yes the fans will run for a short time after you shut it off.
The fans will not run at Highway speeds no need to.

The fans do not always come on after you shut the bike off. IIRC they are controlled by temps of the coolant and speed. The coolant level in the overflow bottle might drop as any air in the system is purged. I would also return to the shop that performed the 1000 mile service and have them check for any leaks. I'd want to know why they gave the bike back to you when it was low on coolant.

With the engine off roll the throttle about half way forward that should start the fans.

Did the roll on the throttle with the ignition on and the bike off. Fans came on fine. I haven't ridden in really hot temps yet, but this is the first time I've ever heard them come on. You would think in a 1,000 miles, they would have come on, at some point, after I turned the bike off.

I just re filled the reservoir again, to the proper level. I'm going to monitor it closely to see what happens. As I mentioned, I've never had a check engine light or a high coolant temp light come on. If there was a thermostat problem or a coolant problem and the bike was getting too hot, the high coolant temp light would come on, right ?

No offense but the manual does not state any of that.

There is an actual chart that shows under what conditions they come on and it varies.
Doesn't always come on after a shutdown and they will run at speed depending on coolant temp.

run the fans and pump for 10 min. and it will purge the air out of the system. top off and it should be good to go. the system only holds a quart .

Does the turn the ignition and roll on the throttle trick to start the fans also kick on the pump ? I can't tell if the pump is on, but the fans are definitely on. Is there something else you need to do to manually start the pump ?

yes , rolling the throttle on turns both the fans and the pump on.
