Heated grips and Apes?

Heated grips and Apes?
Wanting to put some apes on my new '17 Limited, but the P&A catalog states that heated grips cannot be wired internally! Why is this and has anyone done it? I put 12'' Yaffe's on my previous '14 Street Glide so I know how to do the install, just uncertain on the heated grip portion.

Completely different bike, but when I put apes on my 2005 Road Glide I tried real hard to get the heated grips inside the bars. Just was not enough room, I pulled them through twice, kept losing the heated grip wire. With a little more patience maybe it could be done, but I gave up. Internally wiring bars is a PITA, but worth it.
Also you will need an extension wire, they sell them. Good luck, be patient.

You will not find internally wired grips in the P&A catalog but you will find them in the CVO catalog. They're about $530 for a set. Everything in the P&A is set up to have the black control wire run outside down the bars. The only option that I'm aware of is getting the CVO grips. Good luck.

The difference between the stock Harley heated grips and the accessory ones is the position the wires exit the grip. The OEM ones come out the front, the accessory ones come out the side of the grip. That's why just about all the bars you see in the P&A catalog say will not fit with heated grips.
