Default Crankshaft Twist or Pin slack?

I have heard of the problem with the pin between the flywheels on the crankshaft wearing causing a crankshaft twist and a bad vibration on some older models but haven't seen anything on the Rushmore 103's. Has this problem been resolved? Are they welding the pin or at least pressing a set pin in it? I don't have any issues but definitely want to know if there is a concern about this problem in the future as I am at 22K miles and plan on putting a lot more on my bike before I am done with it.

Don't worry about it and just ride. The flywheel crank pin issue will always be their to some degree as long as HD keeps making a 3 piece pressed flywheel. It is fine in most applications.
If you are planning putting a 120/120 build you on it you may want to address it. Some of the things that lead to early movement and eventually failure are, lugging the motor, or operating at too low an rpm. Down shifting to a lower gear at a faster speed sending the rpms through the roof, finally If you like to do burn outs a lot, they seem to have an adverse effect on flywheels.
This is just my opinion, yours may vary.

the problem was the worst on the early 96" seams they had some vendor problems when they went to the new motor. it also seams that its gotten better with the 2010^.

Spun my 2011 96 ci after bumping to 107. I guess it depends on who you ask, but some will say you are on a time bomb. Others will tell you to ignore it. As long as you keep it stock, I have to think you'll be fine. 22k should be nothing for bikes like ours. I'm at 25k. So far, so good.

For me, I bought a 7 year warranty based on the **** crank and compensators. I sincerely hope it was $$ poorly spent.

My bike has 75 pulls on the dyno since I first started mod's when it had 900 miles on it, 57 cams installed then dynoed, changed to a 2-1 exhaust and did some muffler pulls before that as an experiment. Then did head work and installed 777's and dynoed again and now have almost 26,000 miles on the clock with no issue's so I think the problem was more in the 2007 to 2010 range or more with the 96" engines at the beginning.
If I every do a 117" I'll address the crank then but for now I'm strolling right along with no problem !!

I hadn't heard much about it on the newer bikes, just found out about it with a friends bike and was wondering. Thanks for the replies.

One theory about the scissored crank problem was not so much the hard pull but the rapid and hard decel where one side of the crank was being slowed down (ie. rear wheel drive belt>primary chain>left side crank...) while the right side of the crank still had **** loads of inertia still trying to go forward.

Ya know...hammering it in first gear to redline then slamming the throttle closed to stop.

You can see where a high horsepower/ high torque motor could do some real damage in that situation, probably more so than just a straight up hard accel...essentially it was the decel doing the damage.

Anyway...this is what I gathered from many post back when it seemed to be an issue.

^^makes sense. When I 1st noticed the telltale noise on my (2011) bike I was coming back from a trip to the Smokies and the Ozarks. Lots of hard pulls and decels into corners. Maybe not in 1st gear, but in the Smokies, definitely some second gear stuff.
