2015 Road Glide Special Rebuild Project
Hello all!
I decided to take on another wrecked Harley project. As I am a frequent lurker and infrequent poster on the forum, you can see my only posts are related to my last bike, a wrecked street glide rebuild.
I had decided late last year to sell my Street Glide and purchase a wrecked Road Glide Special and see how much I could complete the project for. Since I am a weekend night owl, I figured I could do some of the work myself in the garage. With that being said I have to say two things:
1. I am in no way, shape, or form a mechanic or Harley technician. The worked I perform is usually helped by manuals, internet videos, internet forums, and good ol' trial and error.
2. I hope that you all enjoy the posts. If you have any questions I will try to answer them if time allows. I will also try to publish price and sourcing information for parts if I can.
Please leave the bashing to a minimum......
The Start:
I was able to sell my Street Glide for $10000. I then purchased the Road Glide Special at a price of $8995 from Autocyclers LLC in Madisonville, TN. Great people to work with. I purchased the bike with a $6000 deposit in November and paid it off when I picked it up in January. Autocyclers were extremely helpful in holding the bike and loading it up. Below are the pictures are from the day I picked it up and a few days after I brought it home.

First steps and upgrade/repair
In the State of North Carolina on salvage vehicles you are required to have a "pre-repair" inspection. At the inspection these were the items that are required to be repaired, replaced, or removed. I have chosen to replace all:
1. Outer Fairing
2. Inner Fairing
3. Crash Bar
4. Mirrors
You must have receipts for all of the work performed and parts replaced and a "post-repair" inspection in order to have a salvage rebuilt title.
With that being done. I started my first project which is replacing the handlebars. The factory pullback is too far for my liking and they were tweaked slightly from the accident. I was able to source a used KST Kustom 10 inch Renegade handlebar for $120.00 shipped on Ebay. I used two videos on youtube showing how to install the handlebars. It took around 6 hours to complete the swap because I ran into problems threading the wires through the handlebars. In the end Vaseline, WD-40, and electrical wire helped me get it done. I normally try to take more pictures of my work. Since this was the first upgrade forgive me. I will try to have more pictures going forward.
