Default Hard Strart after cam swap

Hey Guys,
I swapped out my cams to S&S MR103 Ez-start cams on my 14 Ultra Classic. Once started the bike runs great, I pulls hard and still gets really good fuel mileage.

My setup is: S&S MR103 Ez-start cams, Arlin Ness X pipe, Fuel Moto slip-ons, Arlin Ness stealth big sucker, V&H FP3 Auto-tuned for 150 miles.

The bike is VERY hard to start unless I give a slight twist on the throttle. This doesn't make sense to me because the bike is throttle-by-wire.

I also tried to bump the cranking fuel times by 10 Milliseconds between 16 and 128 centigrade degrees. I have since returned the cranking fuel times back to where they started.

Are there any other settings that I can adjust with the FP3 to help me out?

Thanks in advance for your help,
Bam

Where did you get the base map for the FP3 and is it set up for those cams?

I got the base map from V&H and yes it is set up for the new cams.

I sent my map to V&H and they adjusted and sent it back. They problem is better but not quite 100%. I am going to have them re-tweak the map again.

I may be wrong here but I think using an easy start cam with compression releases might be the problem. Not enough compression to start the engine. If the fp3 will turn the acrs off try that. If not I'd unplug them and at least try it. Maybe someone else could verify this.

Do you have compression release? Do you hear them clicking when ignition turned on? After I did my stage 1 I was getting hard starts. Brought it back and they did not turn on compression release in the settings.

I agree. Turn off the ACR's.

I think you guys are right. Why would you install an easy start cam with comp. releases on the bike already? Someone gave the OP bad advice.

I'll turn off the ACR and see if that helps.

I have almost the same set up you have. Not having a start up problem. I don't recall seeing a option to turn off the ACR'S in the FP3. I just loaded the map for the MR103.

I'm running auto tune right now to hopefully solve a off idle hesitation.

The only change I made to the map was increased the idle to 1100 rpm's which it still isn't excatly 1100 more like 1050/1025.

If the auto tune doesn't clear up the problem I think I will have to contact V&H for a adjustment.

Did you use the stock push rods? Or did you use adjustable rods? Maybe if you used adjustable rods when you set the pre-load you were on the release part of the cam lobe?

Just a thought...

Rdcris,
I used the stock push rods. I also raised my idle rpm by 100 to insure the cam's compression relief is disengaged.
