I was out for a ride today and noticed oil on my mirror, fairing, tank and speakers. Looks like the clutch reservoir gasket was improperly installed at the factory. My question is what will this do to paint, chrome, and speaker covers.
brake fluid/hydraulic fluid dissolves paint and other things. Keep clean and get fixed asap.
That is a concern if the bike has Dot3 brake fluid, but as far as I recall, it is silicone base Dot4 on all shipped as new Harley's for many years. So unless converted, just clean it up.
Dont have my manuals at hand, so can not confirm right now.

No. DOT 4 eats paint just like DOT 3. DOT 5 is silicone based and is safe for paint. These bikes are using DOT 4.

Yikes, my error. My prior bike was a '92. Knew that was silicone base, and you are correct that it was Dot5. Looks like Harley changed all models to Dot4 in 2006, FLs in 2005.
No, it looks like the rubber gasket wasn't seated right.
It would be a easy fix but I'm afraid if I do it and the paint or speaker cover shows damage from it they won't repair it.
Thanks for the replys.
