I purchased a new 14 Ultra Limited it has a pronounced loud chatter type noise coming form the primary when the clutch is released worse cold . Harley says it's normal doesn't seem normal for a 30k bike any thoughts this is really annoying besides the nasty clunky shift noise and whining in all gears has had the 1k and now has 2300 miles
Little over 8000 mi on my 14 (Ultra) and has a loud chatter at start up and running 2500 or 2600 rpm in 5th gear but a little throttle takes it away.Sounds like the bad lifters on my 010 Ultra. The chatter at starting just began a few weeks ago,not worried about it.YET
Could it be the chain adjuster? Mine was doing it and a wise HD mechanic told me to run it up to 4k rpms and snap the throttle closed a couple of times. Problem solved for me.

Mine made lots of noise especially at idle until I dumped the Syn 3 in the primary and went back to HD+ standard primary oil. Problem solved, no more noise.
Mine has the same problems. In shop now being repaired. Dealer said HD is aware of the problem. Harley has a .031 shim kit they are installing in the compensator to to tighten up the springs. A combination of the new compensators and the slipper clutch they are using now seems to the problems. They are also increasing the torque on the compensator bolt.

BIG thanks for this info, mine has been driving me crazy. Taking it in for the recall next week, dealer was going to listen to the primary noise, I'll copy your post and take it into them!
Neutral Rattle?
my last 3 touring bikes had it and it does sound like it comes from the primary too. If you pull the clutch in and it stops, that's what it is.
