Default Shifter rattle on my Limited

Major shifter rattle when clutch is engaged. It annoys the hell out me. If I stick my boot under the shifter and push up on it slightly the rattle goes away. Another normal noise???

Make sure it is tight. To do that, remove it and make sure there is no debris in the split. It has been reported several times on the forums that debris in the split keeps one from betting any compression on the splines regardless of torque on the bolt.

Make sure the inner linkage is not coming loose, the one closest to the oil filter.I have had this come loose and was stuck in sixth gear.

Try using your hand with the bike off

Everything is tight. You can see the whole shifter assembly, front, rear, and shaft shaking and rattling. I am thinking I will take the whole thing apart this weekend and put some grease on the shifter shaft where it rides on the bushings and see if that takes care of it.

My 09 Ultra shifter started rattling a lot around 25k miles, I would stick my foot under it to stop the rattle. The shifter housing had excessive ware allowing the shifter shaft to rattle.
When I bought my 14 Limited I pulled the shifter shaft out and applied thick grease into the housing. I have 5500 mile on her and the shaft is still tight in the housing.

My plans is to grease the shaft at every 5k miles.

Adjust the heim joints so there's no slop in the linkage.

I found this shifter arm on J&P's. It has a grease fitting. http://www.jpcycles.com/product/540-0329

I'm thinking about installing it.

Softbrake.com. Go there and look at the sleeves and shift levers they have available.

Default RE: Your Rattle

See how I resolved this by searching for my post under the General Chat area called "Shifter Rattle: Installing SoftBrake's Spacer and Shift Lever"
