I used the spray cans...
But since it is called PlastiDip, the common term for doing it across the truck boards I visit is "dipping"
It is really easy, and if you don't like it, peel it. A bit of overspray on the paint?
no problem, a bit of gentle elbow grease and a microfiber takes it right off.
I would encourage you to watch a video or 2 on youtube about dipping badges on cars, you will see how easy.

Very nice. Love the Plasti - dip projects.
I just did the more committed route of hitting my headlight trim piece with black epoxy paint. Not reversible as I had to scuff the chrome for adhesion. I'll probably get it powdercoated this winter.
Oh and I don't do Dexter references since he went all lumberjack.
