Tapping into high beam wire for extra spotlight relay?
I'm adding an extra pair of LED spot lights mounted to my engine guard on my Limited. I want to tap into the high beam power to the headlight to trigger a relay for these extra lights. Does anyone know if this will cause a problem with the CANBUS?
I tried to wire in a relay for low beam, and a relay for high beam on my CANBUS 2012 dyna, but it didn't work. When switched to high beam, it work only flash high beam for a moment, then revert back to low beam.
Hoping I don't have the same issues on the Limited.

Well now I know the answer.
The lights shown above are mounted using Harley highway peg clamps mounted to the front crash bar. Since each light draws 70w, I wired in a relay which is triggered by the high beam with an inline switch so I can still use hi beam without the LED spots.
The next 3 photos are all with the factory side lights turned off:
1. Low beam only
2. High beam together. Not much different except fot the bright spot in the middle.
3. Low, High, and both LED spots.
I just returned from a 5 state round Australia ride. These lights made riding at night enjoyable, but still very risky.

Nah. Low beam does not stay on. Take a closer look at the first 2 pics. It's a day maker led headlight with 4 LEDs. The2 side LEDs stay on with either high or low beam. I'm planing to run low beam from a switched accessory wire, and then it will stay on when high beam is selected.
