Default Information on Route 2 Vermont/Maine

I am planning a summer run to Maine. I am looking for anyone who can give me a heads up on Route 2 from Montpelier Vermont to Houlton Maine. Good road? Condition? Thanks.

Not familiar with the route all the way to Maine. I usually take route 4 over to Portsmouth then route 1 through Maine (with a stop at Lobster in the Rough), awesome roads. Some of route 2 is crappy near Montpelier.

Have done that rt 3/4 times. 2 is not that scenic in Vt, parts of 2 in NH are nice and 2 thru Maine is very rural and scenic. Depending on where you are its atleast a 2 day ride, when you get to Houlton stay at Iveys-- clean ,comfortable, and small pub attached, you can probably make Bangor in a day, stay at the Fireside next to the Casino[ great restaurant and micro brew, and depending on what day of the week youre there , music on the waterfront. I,m doing that route this summer just dont know when--- Got Lake George, Laconia, Bentleys[at least 6 times] Finger Lakes region and a ride to Mt Washington already planned. Let us know when you are leaving. ROCKER

Zeke, I'm thinking end of summer. Would be good to travel with another bike if it worked out. PM me if interested, I'm pretty flexible

Pretty scenic ride from Bethel to Skowhegan. Comes out of the White Mountians in NH and thru the Western mountians of Maine. The roads are decent. Couple of slowdowns thru Rumford/Mexico/Dixfield - mill and logging towns. Then on to Farmington - college town and on to Mercer and Skowhegan. When I went from Skowhegan to Farmington last fall there was some road work just outside Skowhegan but all should be good by the time you roll thru. After that, it has been a while since I have gone further North on 2. Rt 2A used to be some of the most desolate road in the state. There is an old country song about the "Hainesville Woods", which you will pass thru. It used to be the quickest way from Houlton to Bangor before the Interstate was built.
Have a safe trip, and if you are out after dark, watch for the damn moose!!
