I'm just happy that people are actually replacing them. It really burns me when people leave the same flag up and almost all the stripes are coming undone with ravels on each end. Faded so much that you can see a bird through it...I just wanna find those people and bring it to their attention to take care of it. Good call on this thread....like it alot!!
When I see her getting treated like that I tell the person once. Next day if she is still being disrespected... I take her home and give her the respect she deserves. I know one day I'll probably get arrested for stealing a flag but I guess that's a risk I'm willing to take.

The retiring of the American flag is to be done in a respectful manner. Just dumping it on the backyard fire pit is not the proper way to do this. http://www.ushistory.org/betsy/more/flagburning.htm or http://www.flagkeepers.org/Home.asp
I suggest the local VFW, American Legion, Fire Dept. or the scouts. They will all carry this out properly. If you wish to educate your kids, I'm sure one of these organizations will allow yow to attend the ceremony.
