Post Appalachian Outlaws And Ginseng Hunting

Ginseng prices have skyrocketed to a thousand dollars a pound! This new series(Appalachian Outlaws) starts Thursday night and is about people who collect it and try to protect their stomping grounds. I'll watch it just for the scenery if nothing else since I have spent a lot of time in the mountains. Any ginseng hunters here?

Too many lazy-asses out there who don't learn about *when* and *how* to collect ginseng, and so they blandly wind their way through the woods like the ignorant buffoons they are and accidentally trip over a patch and literally destroy it by picking it clean. So yeah, I guard our ginseng area jealously because there's too many dumbshits out there who just don't give a rats butt what they do to anything.

Same way with mushrooms, the idiots will destroy a good patch of morels. I can't think of anything better than a tender piece of beef on the grill and a batch of fresh morels battered and fried to a golden brown. Damn, my mouth is watering just thinking about that meal!

This is something I had absolutely no knowledge of, so I looked it up.

Fascinating. Looks like I can't grow it in SoCal.

Some of the boys trafficking bear parts have always made a good haul on the side picking ginseng. Running miles thru the woods after a Bluetick chasin' a bruin tends to bring 'em in contact with more of the root than casual hikers.Don't ask me how I know.

I have dug plenty ginseng, it aligns with squirrel season here and my dad taugh me to dig it when I was younger. I haven't dug any in years as I don't get out near as much now.

Little slow here sometimes Larry. Just noticed Tennessee Holster Company logo and put it together with THC. Must be nice to be self employed.....

never even knew it grew in this country. Seems like everyone would try to grow it if you can get that kind of money.
