I just can't get myself to do that so I change it every 7500 miles or every 6 months or so ('85 944.)
(I don't think there's a 'bad' 20W-50 oil out there anymore as far as a VTwin goes.)

I've been using this stuff. I like it. Around $8.50 a quart from Amazon delivered . Also available at most NAPA stores.

Use any name brand 20w50 oil that is easy to find.
It will make no difference to the engine.
I wouldn`t bother changing oil for cold weather unless the engine cranks slow when starting.
Spend your money on gas, not oil.

Sorta late to be resurrecting this but I've just switched to Red Line. That RL Tranny oil is miracle juice !!
To the OP, if those are your choices, I'd go with Amsoil. I don't believe Syn-3 (This is MY opinion), is synthetic. I believe Syn-3 is a group III and while it is no doubt a perfectly OK product, if I'm paying for synthetic I want synthetic.
Group V = Ester base synthetic (ex. Red Line)
Group IV = PAO base synthetic (ex. Amsoil)
Group III = Very well refined albeit ordinary oil. (ex. Syn-3, I suspect)
The main clue for me, is in the proprietary mystique surrounding some "synthetic" brands, particularly the attractively priced ones. When a company uses mainly PAO or Esters in their base oil they sing that fact from the rooftops. PAO and Ester bases are very expensive to produce and if they're what your product is made of you want people to know it. Its when a company's "synthetic" product contains little or no true (PAO or Ester) in their base oil, that they seem to adopt the "We'd tell you but then we'd have to kill you" proprietary policies toward just whats in their "synthetic" can.
There are only 2 laboratory produced synthetics; PAO and Esters. Everything else came out of the ground.
