Default Oil pressure relief valve sticking

My cam bearings in my 01 flhrci went bad and came apart, drove it almost a month while it was going bad. Installed S&S gear driven 510 cams lifters and billet oil pump, new valve seats and guides.
Within 60 miles oil pressure light came on and no oil pressure. My mechanic says the relief valve is sticking and thinks the cam support plate is warped and needs to be replaced. As of this posting I'm not sure if he replaced the valve parts or not, can this plate warp?
From what I've read in here the plate could be cracked or the valve could just need replacing. I don't want to just replace valve and put it back together and still have a problem.
Thanks for any info.
