Default another dumb winter question

I just had the 1000 mile service done a month ago but have only been able to put about 400 miles on it since the oil change. For winter I was thinking of either leaving it or changing it. for piece of mind even if i just changed it is it really necessary to change the filter?

Thanks.

If your through for the season, I would just leave things the way they are. No need to change anything until your next service. I can't see changing the oil with 400 miles since the last change. I always change the filter with an oil change. No need to skimp on 13 bucks for a filter.

Leave it alone and winterize it.

No need to do another oil service with 400 miles on the oil..

Yep wait another couple thousand miles or so. Btw, in my opinion the filter should be changed with every oil change. If you need convincing, simply dump the oil out of your filter next time you change oil.

Change it when the mileage dictates, not because it's winter or spring.

Agreed. If you have a long trip planned, that will take mileage way beyond service time, then bring a service forward, otherwise you'll be fine.

lt1-xjs, do you have an XJS Jaguar, by any chance? I had a V-12 for many years.

Yes I do. 1989 with a 1993 LT1 engine and trans. Sleeper, runs 12.8x. I put the motor in 15 years ago, it's been a great car.

Crikey - I made do with the stock V-12! Mine was an '84 although later on I did fit a straight-through tuned stainless exhaust system on it - sounded like a fighter plane at speed!
