ATF in primary - B&M vs ATF+4
Just did my spring service and fluid change. Last time, I put B&M Trick Shift in. Very grabby clutch, hard to do smooth friction zone stuff like parking lot turns. Almost no wear particles on the plug magnet, and those just a fine dust, though.
This time, I'm running a synthetic ATF+4. Very smooth and controlable clutch action, with no grab, much easier friction zone maneuvers. We'll see how the wear goes.

I use Mobil 1 syn ATF with 3 ounces of Lube Guard highly friction modified ATF supplement. The combination is AWESOME!
Be prepared for a beat down from the ATF haters.

No beatdown here. I've tried a bunch of different fluids, and I keep coming back to Formula +. It's got the best clutch feel hands-down, and it'll do a far better job of protecting the compensator than ATF well.
Run whatever you want in your bike, doesn't mean a thing to me. I don't hate ATF, I just know that I had lousy shift feel and went through two compensators while I was experimenting with it.

When I started using it, the price was $1.79. Now it's up to $2.44!
Run what you want, but this is the stuff I've run in my primary for the past 150,000 miles. (Wal-Mart brand.)

I like the way the clutch grabs with the B&M trick shift fluid, I put it in my primary the first oil change I did to my bike when I bought it.
I guess you either love it or hate it.

I tried the Mobil synthetic ATM straight, with no additives and it works excellently during the cold weather. It's almost unbelievable how much it improves clutch operation after a cold start compared to Formula plus.
This will be my first warm weather season using the Mobil fluid. The only downside is the smell - it is the stinkiest automotive fluid I've ever used bar none.

Folks over think it IMO. Though there may be differences in clutch feel with some fluids, the original 'primary fluid' was just straight engine oil. There was no 'designed for the primary' oil (until somebody thought of making one.)
