Shared Oil Pan? Dyna 96

Pull the trans dipstick, it should show NO lubricant on it if you pulled 2 plugs.

Transmission dipstick is a female Allen in front of the starter cover, right side of bike. It's drain plug is below on the pan right side of bike, behind a metal guard welded to frame rail.
Engine crankcase oil dipstick is right side an inch in front of cover that reads 6 speed. It's drain plug is on left side facing horizontal. Primary fills through primary cover that has 5 bolts. It's drain plug is on the bottom of same primary cover facing down.
Hope that helps. Your on your own figuring out what oil to use and why.

If you want someone to help you have to read the answers carefully.
It is very possible that the previous owner used 20 w 50 oil in the motor, the transmission and the primary. Some people do.
There are some helpful people around here if you're willing to read carefully the answers they took time to provide.

I had considered that, but I put 2600+ miles on it (on top of whatever the previous owner had) which brought me to the 10K service interval. What's your transmission lube usually look like at 10,000 miles? I'm may just be used to the single case method but that lube was too clear to have had any miles on it.

I assure you that was motor oil in your tranny.

My tranny oil almost looks exactly the same coming out as going in (at closer to 20,000 miles.) Water contamination is the only evidence of used oil on my well broken in tranny. No chips, no discoloration (except for condensation perhaps.)

Hey guys sorry to chime in but I see a point where I'm having a problem, I have transmission leaking somehow to the engine leaving the transmission dry in the engine overfilling, anybody know what can cause this? It's the first post I've come by that mentioned transmission and engine oil mixing. HELP!!!
Give some information when you ask a question, such as model and year...
