What is a opinion on the Royal Purple vs the HD synthetic. I have a 1986 FLT and the guy that rebuilt the engine says to use the Royal Purple. Now the service manager at the local HD shop recomends the HD synthetic. I would like a opinion before I do my first oil change since the rebuild.

 

I WOULD GO WITH THE ROYAL PURPLE.

 

I figured that the RP was fine but I have had a couple of guys claim that the AMS and RP oil is hard on the Cam bearings

 

Got to talking with a fella towing his race car to the track, and oil came up. I asked what he uses, he said Royal Purple. I asked how he liked it, and he said "OK", with no enthusiasum at all. I asked him why he uses it if he's not super happy with it. All he said was that he gets it for free. Makes one wonder.

 

Go with the least expensive. The difference between the 2 is not much. Telll your dealer you want his preferred customer 20% discount...

 

RP is better by far than Syn 3.&nbsp\\; I switch over in both my bikes and have been pleased with the results.&nbsp\\; I have never heard of any problems with the cams or bearings, or any wear issues period.&nbsp\\; Just about any high end synthetic is better than Syn 3 in my view.

 

Buy whichever one you can get for a better price - your bike will never know the difference - only your wallet will.

 

Most guys in that position will gladly "endorse" just about any product that is free and doesn't cost them time or place on the track.

scratch them both.&nbsp\\; Go with Mobil 1 15w-50.&nbsp\\; But if I had to choose between the two, I would go with the RP
