My primary currently has Formula+ in it, but it's about to get a dose of conventional Rotella T 15W40 which is JASO-MA certified. I figure it's great (dare I say legendary) oil that is about half the price of Formula+. That said, I have no problems with Formula+ and would run it again.

HTML Code:
Yes, it is a simple SAE50 GL-1 conventional oil (made by Citgo).
Humm, I didn't know it was a Citgo product. Kinda funny, not much would make me switch to another alternative....but hugo chavez and his anti american BS just might be enough.

Thats just one of the reasons I don't buy any of the petroleum products from HD - The other is that there are much higher quality products available.

+1 50w with weak additives. A real money maker for the moco.

So from experience what is the best to put in the primary that will not mess with the clutch plates? B/c I have amsoil 20W-50 in the motor and sever gear 75W-140 in the trans. Is the trans. weight good or should I move down to the 90? Thanks

If you want to stick with Amsoil you could use 10W40 MC oil.

Well, that fact surely eliminates the use of HD oil for me.

Trans oil is fine- any gear oil will suffice. Harley spec's Syn 3 20W-50 or Formula+ with 20k mile OCI, so obviously it's not an overly hostile environment. Even el-cheapo gear oils are designed to be put in heavy truck differentials & run for 50k miles plus, so our little gearboxes won't put a hurtin' on any decent gear lube.

Primary is good with Formula+, ATF, Rotella 15W-40, or any motor oil (like 10W-40 or 20W-50) without moly as an additive.

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking about amsoil 10W-40 or Super Shift Racing Transmission Fluid SAE 10W
