Default Bad decision in Tranny?

My bike stripped down and parts at the paint shop now so I changed all the fluids. I put Royal purple in everything. 20-50 in the engine and ATF in the primary and tranny. I must have read something wrong in the past. From what I have been reading in here tonight it looks like I was wrong. I haven't tan it yet and will probably drain and change it this weekend when I get some time.

So with all this said, just to confirm my VTwin ignorance, ATF is bad in the tranny right? To thin? Redline shockwave a good alternative? Would Royal Purple 20-50 max-cycle be fine?

Thanks Captain. What is the difference between 80W-90 and 85W-140 in the trannys? What performance difference is there?

The 85w140 is thicker and will reduce gear noise. ATF is too thin for the trans but fine for the primary. +2 on the BelRay 85w140 gear saver...I used it and it is fine.

Redline Shockproof is solid... as is the Belray. Avoid Amsoil... can we say "snake oil"?

Could not find Belray or Redline yesterday so I put Mobile 1 80-90 in. I'll find some Belray or Redline for the next change. In the three holes I have Engine: Royal Purple 20W-50, Tranny: Mobile 1 Gear, Primary: Royal Purple Max ATF.
