What Brand Engine Oil do you use in your bike
#1201
Previous owner used Syn3 at dealer, I changed all 3 to Redline. Bought the power pack. Bike sounds quieter, shifting seems smoother, and I did notice a drop in temperature.
I was glad I changed it, it had only been about 4,000 miles since the fluids were changed but the primary was filthy with tons of fine metallic material in it.....the transmission fluid was pretty much clear.
+1 for Redline "V-Twin" Power pack.

Just bought my first Harley. Have 1 year left on factory warranty. My previous bike I ran Rotella T6 with a change every 3k. Been reading here some use the Rotella in their motor. I know its rated JASO. I have 3000 miles on it so I have a few to go before I change the fluids. Guess I'll figure out what to go with by then.

The Redline I filled the transmission with was like Pepto Bismol in it's appearance.

The OLD transmission fluid came out clear - didn't look like it had any shavings in it at all. I'm thinking the dealer changed the transmission fluid and not the engine oil or primary fluid unless this is normally the case after 4000 miles - should the tranny fluid be clear? Not sure.
Yes, that is normal. The reason Engine oil turns black fairly quickly is combustion gases blow by the piston rings and that tiny debris turns the engine oil blackish. The tranny and primary do not have that problem so they stay pretty clean looking. Thus the difference between the change intervals of engine and the other two cases.

Well I just changed all 3 holes in my 117" Trike. I have used Mobil I 20w-50 in all 3 holes since I broke this motor in.
I bought the hype and switched all 3 holes to Redline products.
My life has not changed. I noticed marginal differences in the transmission "clunk" and the engine seems to be slightly cooler. To be fair to Mobil ! I think the Redline transmission product is gear oil and heavier than Mobil 1. Next time I will compare the two and use Mobil 1 75w-90 gear oil.

I started out with Amsoil 75-90 gear oil, but quickly changed to 75-140 do to recommendations from friends. Even my dealer recommends 75-140, but Belray brand.
Personally I use a different oil in all 3 holes.

New convert!!
I wish I had read this forum sooner but oh well. I bought the hype and changed all 3 holes to Syn3 about a year and a half ago. I did changed th engine to Mobil 1 V twin 20W50 but couldn't find any this spring so I went back to Syn3...man what a difference. Valve clatter was driving me crazy and I couldn't stand it anymore.
Went back to Mobil 1 V twin 20w50 in the crank case but added 1/2 a quart of the Lucas Stabilizer as well to see if it would quiet down. It did the trick...sounds like new again after a test drive. Changed the primary to the Mobil 1 20W50 also.
Added the Mobil 1 Synthetic 75w90 gear lube to the transmission. Shifting is noticeably more quiet.
I cant remember who posted about adding the Lucas to their noisy 96" but thanks. I had hesitated adding anything other than oil. The stealerships would never give me a solid answer about using something other than HD stuff.

Try using 75/140 trans fluid if you want quiet. I use Amsoil 75/140 Severe Gear oil in mine.
Nothing wrong with H-D Formula+ for the primary. It's very good.
