What Brand Engine Oil do you use in your bike
#1281
Was using a synthetic but went back to Dino to reduce valve train noise. Been using VR1 20w50 or straight 50w in AZ. Now that Im in Colorado, I will be using Rotella T 15w40. Jason MA oil is only necessary when the clutch is sharing the oil with the engine which is not the case with Harleys.

ONE MORE TIME: I never argued that point,,,,,,in fact I made a point of saying about a "worn out engine". If you don't change the oil metal particles from one end wear our rings, bearings and cylider walls while at the same time grit thru a cheap dirty air filter wears our rings and cylinder walls but and it is a big but the system is broke, smoke rolling out exhaust pipe and all from worn out rings the oil system is no longer sealed because you let dirt in thru the intake system and metal particles thru the oil system.

Here is your second to last post saying sand can't get into the oil system.
[QUOTE=Erbie;13417125]How does sand get into a sealed system, I've been to Bamako Mali and drank bottled water, no sand in any of it because it was sealed, unless you have a 1950s vechile its oil system is sealed to keep out dirt.

Here is your last post saying the same thing = dirt can't get into a sealed oil system. Not once did you mention bad rings.
Lost you? Then making it very simple, how does sand or dirt get into your oil system that is sealed air tight? Unless you have a rod hanging out thru the crankcase or just plain throw your filler cap away leaving the hole open to the elements. Thru the air cleaner, how does it get past the rings that are there to hold compression on top of the piston, maybe your bike does not have rings?

You can't go wrong by following the manual. Only thing is here in the US you can only get 15/40 Delvac, Rotella or Delo. For my warm climate I prefer 20/50 as well as the Harley manual which states 20/50 is preferred, but it also states 15/40 is acceptable. Personally I would rather use any name brand 20/50 motorcycle or automotive.

In all my life (55years of riding) I've never had the opportunity to have to use diesel oil. Lucky? maybe.

Yes but the manual says : when you are far from an HD dealer (hd oil) you can use a diesel oil, they don't say any good oil...
But I agree 100% with you.

Right, They aren't going to list a competitors oil so naturally they say diesel oil. H-D oil would be the last oil I'd use....if absolutely no other oil was available. I tend to stay away from anything that was from the lowest bidder if at all possible.
