Mobile does not recommend the use of GL-5 gear lube in the transmission unless specified by the manufacturer. Harley makes no mention of any of their oil specifications in their owner manuals. What does Harley actually specify for transmission other than simply their own harley product?

Formula+ is a GL1 gear lube. My local TSC and farm equipment stores sell GL1 in 1 and 5 gallon jugs. You would be fine to use any GL1 lube anywhere Harley says to use Formula plus. The Japan oil spec of JASO MA/MA2 is oil formulated for shared sump systems and will be just as fine to use in the primary or trany.

Default I would love simple.

I have an '06 1200c sporty. I just want to go to nearby town and buy a quart of the juice that goes in my transmission. Don't want to go to stealer and buy their juice. I read the poll, and the debates, but most everyone is talking about non-sporties, and 3 holes. I only see one hole for engine oil, and i have to take off big round side cover which makes a hole (sorta) to see level of tranny oil.

I saw some 75w-90 Mobil-1 on the shelf at Advance auto parts, they got 90w-140 too. Got a Wally-World, O'Reilly, and Napa nearby too. I figure one of these places has got to have, what someone here says is a proper alternative, to stealer's sporty tranny juice.

Clymer Manual says "2006-on - H-D Formulate Lubricant or equivalent"

Which sounds code for " only buy HD stuff from dealer" I don't even know if that means regular oil, synthetic, or partially synthetic.

Thanks for your help.
