I repack the steering head bearings about every 7-8 years on my Softail, with wheel bearing grease.

If you look up that special purpose grease, it says it is for `97 and later .

That`s funny because the same steering head bearings have been used for over 50 years...

It is thinner so that it can be pumped into the steering head with a grease gun on the bikes that have grease fittings...and then run out all over the front fender on a hot day...

I recommend wheel bearing grease.

bought a tube of the HD neck bearing grease and another grease gun,
been using it for 6yrs now and I grease the neck bearing once in the spring..

pump grease in till it comes out top and bottom of the neck,, wipe excess off and then wipe it again later.

never had any to leak or run down on front fender,,

It was about $8.00, 6 yrs ago so it's gonna be more now (that's what, $1.00 or less a yr for the grease) and I still have maybe 1/2 tube left. At least I don't have to try to find what's close to it in another brand..

I used Green Grease which is available at autozone. It is compatible with most types of grease and does not run in hot warther

So. I have my new to me 09 Road King home for a couple weeks now and Saturday I found great globs of grease sitting on the lower triple clamp which surprised me. I am assuming at this point it's a result of some over zealous lining.

You all agree?
