Because it is not JASO MA rated. Oil in the primary needs more friction, great for a wet clutch, not so great in a motor. It is nowhere near being GL1 rated for the trans so it is a no go.

Since the Harley does not use a shared sump feeding the trans and clutch the same oil as the motor, we can ignore the JASO spec oils and all in one jack of all trades master of none oils and use the proper lubes for each seperate part of the machine.

The VR1 will be better in your motor than the all in one oils. Trans and primary are beast off with a GL1 gear lube or Formula+. the local TSC has GL1 lubes, but only in 1-5 gallon jugs. So I just use Formula+. one thing Harley has done right is Formula+. have yet to use a better primary trans lube.

 

Here is the combination I use, I respect that others may use different.
Mobil 1 V-Twin 20W-50, I use this in the Engine and Transmission
Mobil 1 Racing 4T 10W-40 Motorcycle oil is designed to help provide the proper frictional characteristics necessary for wet-clutch, this is what I use in the Primary.
I agree with Dusty Bones about Formula + if you can not make up your mind then go with this one for your Primary and Transmission and you won't go wrong.

 

Sorry, forgot about this post. What Dusty said, although I am not a big fan of Formula+. Will it work? Sure will. I prefer the 75-140 or so gear oil for the transmission.

I like to stay with one brand in all 3 holes, not meaning 20w50, just meaning brand.
