'62 Pan Coughing & Choking at stop signs/lights ... HELP!
Hey folks!
 \\;
I've a '62 pan that I need some tech help with ...
Just about one out-of-every five times when I start out from a stop sign/light (packing or by myself) she tends to cough and choke (as if she's flooded) when I let out the clutch and apply the throttle ... and I apply the throttle conservatively here, not \\;gunning her \\;or spot-lighting. \\;
 \\;
I usually have to pull the clutch, open the throttle fairly wide and make an attempt to clear her out. This makes for a loud slow-down-in-the-middle-of-an-intersection problem. But \\;works ... ah, at times that is. Sometimes I have to sputter along a few block until she clears herself out (?).
I don't have ventilated gas caps so I usually open them frequently along my rides... (culprit?)
If anyone has any suggestions on how to correct this embarrassing shortcoming please reply.
Thanks!!

sqdealgeorge,
Thanks again for your reply ...
Dig this, turns out my battery was a bit low! (it's a 6v system) I charged it up and whala! Only coughed once or twice in a 35+ mile ride the other night!
Thank you very much for your feedback however and have a great day!!

I had the same sputtering problem yesterday. It turned out that during the ride my generator bolts has backed out and the generator has dropped down in the frame. YIKES!!! Bolted it back in and started the bike........no more sputtering. I guess the battery was getting run down as I was going along and affecting the ignition. I think I'll safety wire it. I thought of this thread.
