Default How to measure for front end

I have a 51 rigid frame with modified rake (about 35 to 36 degrees) and some stretch ( about 1.5 to 2 inches). How do I measure to get the correct length wide glide front end? How much does the front end squat from the load of the bike, I would guess that this would figure in? What years can I choose from? Any advise is welcome.

49-e77 wideglide with a 6" over stock length and 21" wheel might be a good one?

Default front end

I'd like to stay with a 16 in wheel. Can you tell me how you came up with those figures?

I have a 53 pan frame, 47 knuck motor, runnin a 4" over stock wideglide with a 21", sits pretty level, my rake is 32-33 dgrees no stretch. I had a 6" over front end layin around, mocked it up and it was too much. the frame was too high in the front. even with a 16" wheel a 6" should sit well. Maybe these other guys could help before you order anything.

Knuck36, Thanks for the info. Can you tell me what the stock rake was? I was thinking it was 32-33 but I must be wrong. Thanks again.

Knuck36, do I need to worry about using a glide front end that is 6" over (if thats what I need) with my rake? I have been told that going to a 36 degree rake changes the action of a glide front end quite a bit. The way I have measured I get 24.25" from center of axle to lower cup. Does that sound like I could be in the ball park? I am not sure what the length of a stock front end is but 24" doesn't seem like much over to me. Thanks for the help. Steve

the "over" dimension is actually the inner tube, stock length on an early glide fork tube is 20.5 inches. My axle to bottom cup is 25.5 without the motor in it(lower end is being balanced).that should come down when motor is back in.I wonder if your frame with the stretch in it keeps the geometry in check so you can run a 4" over stock front end?(for better handling).Mine wasn't stretched it was just cut at the gusset and pulled out to 40 deg. with a 10" over front end. I never rode it that way but my Dad had it that way for 25 years. I dont think he cared about the performance just the look.I'm not a math whizz, just lucky enough to have had some extra parts to try until I found ones that worked.
