Shift Gate
Iam posting this request here because the majority of the posts in the "wanted to buy" section are requests for newer stuff...Looking for an OEM shiftgate for a 3 speed/reverse for my 49 EL. Can trade an OEM 4 speed shiftgate (new chrome)or will purchase the 3 speed. I am changing out my tranny in order to add the 3 speed/reverse set up to my sidecar. Would like to avoid "Tawain Ted" part if possible. Nothing against the stuff but I am trying to keep it close to stock. Personal perference...that is all. thx Dave

RE: Shift Gate
Well, it turned out to be a no-go. I rooted around through all my parts bins and couldn't find the gate. Sorry, Dave.
Where did you cop the tranny? Last time I saw one for sale was about 3 years ago and it went for $2500. I told the guy who bought my bike that if he ever wanted to ditch that 3 speed he'd better give me dibs on it.

RE: Shift Gate
pococj..thx for looking. The tranny started as a 4 speed with correct dated top and bottom andstarter cover. Over the last yearI have been scrounging for the dozenorso (more or less) OEM parts needed for the conversion. I am down to needing two more parts, the couuntershaft low gear and the mainshaft 2nd gear. Then I will tear the tranny down and make it like new (newer?). NOS Partshas thembut they are expensive. May have to go that route though to ensure I do not end up with a blown tranny from using inferior or too worn stuff.

Try these guys, http://www.antiquecyclesupply.com/ . Give them a call if you don't see it in the catalog because they sometimes get in a few parts that they don't list.
