Default Repainting heat shields/muffler?

I have the Bassani Road Rage exhaust and had a tip over in a gravel lot. Left some ugly scratches in the heat shield and muffler. I was going to use hi-temp matte black to repaint them. Any prep I need to do of the shields and muffler or just spray them?

Yes, I will be removing them from the bike as well as removing the end cap of the muffler and taping it off appropriately at both ends.

Maybe a little scotch bright and paint. VHT makes some good high heat paint.Seen a member paint a Thunder Header with a gloss high heat and it looked pretty good.

Scuff the finish up a little bit before you paint, scotch-brite works, or some fine steel wool. Just enough to give the paint something to hold on to. VHT works good. I refinished my scratched up endcaps (prev owner) this way, turned out nice.
