Default painting over LED's on HD flush mount fuel gauge

I would like to change out the stock gas cap and fuel gauge on my Softail for the flush mount ones that HD makes.

HD makes these in chrome or vivid black.....but I would like to have mine done in the same color as my paint set (Black Cherry Pearl). I have the PPG paint code, so getting the paint is not a problem.

But, what about painting over the LED lights that indicate the fuel level in the tank on the flush mount fuel gauge? Will the LED lights still show through the paint?

Any ideas ??

masking off the LED's would leave a band of chrome (or black); something I would not find appealing.

I'm hoping the LED's would still show through the paint. Anyone with experience on this?

If you use the right experienced painter he can do it for you, its a matter of thinning out the paint a bit and to be done right the cap should be painted in 2 stages, full paint on the cap masking off the led area, then a coat of the thinned paint over everything to get a good even color. I have the stock tail lights (non-LED)on my car painted to match the color of the car and they shine right through the paint as running lights and braking, so it can be done especially with brighter emitting LED lights.

as stated above... personally i would paint it and use a translucent in the airbrushed thinned way out... masking on the flush mount would be near impossible cause you can not see them till they are all lit up. would be a pain in the ***

The light will absolutely not shine through unless you are using a candy color base with very little pigment. Even a straight clear coat without any base will slightly change the color of how your lights currently apprear.
