Default How do you properly apply tank decals?

I know with standard heavy vinyl decals it's fairly easy, but I have older factory Harley tank decals that are thinner and one solid sheet vs. cut out letters. Is the method of spraying the tank down with Windex, applying the decal/positioning/smoothing out the bubbles, and then letting it dry the correct method? Decals weren't cheap, would prefer not to have it come out crappy.

Thanks guys.

You got it but I don't use Windex. I learned this mixture from a guy that does window tinting for a living:

2 cups water
1 drop dish washing detergent
1/4 cup rubbing/isopropyl alcohol
Mix in a trigger spray bottle

The alcohol helps the water dry under the decals and I even use this when I apply a screen protector to any electronic device (sparingly though so I don't short anything out). Hopefully you aren't doing anything on a really curved surface because that can be tricky and something require the use of a heat gun to stretch the decals. Good luck.

They're going on a 6 gallon tank set on my Heritage, so there are curves, but I don't think they're too bad. I do have a heat gun, but I sure don't want to use it.

Ok, I used your buddy's recipe and it worked great. I put the right side decal a bit low, but overall it looks really good. It's in the sun now drying out, but there are no bubbles.

Thanks. Next time I'll do the angle better. I ordered some decals for the Dyna, hopefully they'll be here next week.

I see you're multitasking by taking a picture and talking on the phone at the same time.
