Default Questions about blacking out front end

I want to black out most of mt 07" FLHPI

What I wanted to know is how best to do the legs/forks uppers and lowers?

Is it like when you want to add chrome? you order parts in black and take off your stock stuff and sell it on eBay or keep it in case you sell the bike and want to offer the stock parts with the bike?
OR
Should I powder coat what I have? paint it ?
It is factory now, not chromed, so brushed aluminum lowers I think and what looks like chrome beer cans, but it might just be whatever stock is, stainless? nickel? etc.. not really sure but shiny silver.

I havent read everything yet but I see alot of info on powder coating DIY which I am interested in looking into.

What has anyone else done when going black?

I am not looking for the least expensive way to do it, I just want it to be done right and not have issues later.

Any tips on how to best black out my front legs and stuff would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

For my '04, I bought take off's off of Ebay, had them powder coated, and changed them out. Later, I sold my original parts on Ebay.

^^^ Same here. I'm almost done except for engine parts and fuel cap/ gauge. About $200 into powder which is reasonable for me.

I too bought a different set of lowers and had them powder coated. I matched my denim black at 1500 miles. The bike now has 24K miles and its holding up great.

The one thing I did find was the cost from 1 powder coater to another varies significantly. I also had my saddle bag supports done and it cost me like 30.00. I went with a friends recommendation for the lowers, cowbells and the skirt, 400.00. But it matched real good and has held up. But so has the saddle bag supports.
