Default Powdercoat questions

I am currently getting all of my parts together to be powdercoated for my FXR and have a few questions..

First off, is there any type of filler at all that can be safely used before powdercoating? Majority of the parts are perfect surface wise (all bead blasted to bare metal). When I blasted the outer primary, I discovered bondo covering a decent sized chunk on the lower portion, I assume the bike went down at some point.

Should I get a new outer primary or is there a trick for this?

Next, I want to have all the tins done in denim black or the powdercoat equivalent to it. The tank and rear fender are of course metal but the side panels and front fender are fiberglass.. What are the chances on getting a good match beteen powdercoat and spray paint? Should I just have all of the tins sprayed to be sure? I would rather powdercoat but not if it doesn't make sense...

we do metal work and powder coating, it is either through welding and smoothing or brazing at times... if we can help at all please let me know. bondo will not work and will create a mess in the oven!

I was hoping you would reply, I really like the quality of your work and respect your opinion. I knew bondo was a no go but wondered if there was another trick.

Seems that welding (filling the void) is the only solid sure fix..

I will PM you when ready to send the parts out, I don't mind shipping the smaller stuff, wish I could ship the frame too but I believe that would be a PIA for both of us and be too costly since I am in San Diego...

BTW, what is you opinion regarding my tins being a mix of metal and fiberglass? should I spray them all or try to match the powdercoat on the fiberglass parts?

you cn not coat fiberglass, trust me i have tried every which way to pull it off, no go... you can color match powder to pain and paint to powder though no problem at all!

There is a product called epo-strong which was developed for the powder industry, works the same as bondo and holds up to numerous cure cycles. JRK, if your customers can't afford the coin for all the metal work this stuff is another option. I'm sure you know the company but if not shoot a PM.

We have tried that but have a bit better luck wtih metal lab, problem is getting flawless finishes with multi coats, we ha horrible luck with Epo-strong... so we just do it the right way in all metal, this way we can better back our product, and not have to worry about having to redo a multi coated part due to issues in the final cure cycle. It is typically cheaper for metal work/welding than it would be for the layering of metal fillers for us as far as time into the part goes. but for one shot, or low cure powders we have had great luck with Metal lab

Never got Lab metal to work right but that epo is great stuff. Agree that an all metal repair is the way to go

JRK, is that paint or powder on the tank and fenders in your last pics? Which black is that? Stuff looks great. Amazing work man!
