Hogtune speaker lids - need tips on rattle canning correctly
I want to make sure I do this right the first time so I'm looking for some feedback. I received my Hogtune speaker lids ( http://www.hogtunes.com/bestlidsperiod.html ) that say they are pre-primed and ready to go. I'm going to be buying the ColoRite Red Hot Sunglo paint ( http://www.ebay.com/itm/121126766792...84.m1438.l2649 ) and had a few questions and thoughts. Someone please correct me if I'm going to make a mistake by doing the following after my research:
1- Should I scuff lightly with 1000 (or something finer) or just prep with alcohol and go?
2- Drop all cans in hot water for 10 minutes prior to shooting
3- Use alcohol to wipe down between coats and after wet sanding for prep.
4- 3 coats of base? 1st coat very light, 2nd coat thicker and wet sand with 1500, 3rd coat thicker and wet sand with 2000. Or should I just wait to wet send after the 3rd coat?
5- Top coat. I assume this is a 1 coat process and will give it that hint of metal flake look??? Use my bag as a reference as to how much top coat is needed and don't do anything to it after it is laid down? Or should I wet sand with 2000.
6- 4 coats of clear wet sanding between each with 1500 or 2000. Or should I just wet sand after the 4th coat?
7- Buff with Ultimate compound and foam pad on polisher.
I'm not planning on doing it until the weather gets warmer in the Spring but want to get my mind right so I can calm my OCD . Thanks in advance.

I just ordered my paint the other day so I don't know yet. The person that I talked to at ColorRite said the 3 can system (base, top, clear) will do approx 3x3 with good full coverage which should be plenty for the lids. She also told me to do a spray out to make sure I got the color matched right before doing the lids.

i would not color sand, just between your clear, unless you lay your clear wet, if you lay your clear wet (i like to do with rattle cans) then you will be fine to just lay your clears and buff but the issue you run into is outgas of the base with to many coats of clear, so if you do this only do 2/3 coats of clear
remember light coats = good paint
Thick coats = redo
