Default pressure washer removed clear coat

Dont know much about paint, or pressure washers for that matter. I thought I was really getting some bugs off after a long trip, turns out it was the top layer of clear coat on my pearl yellow fairing. Is this something that can be recoated or am I just hosed?

You might get a better response on the general forum. Good luck.

You should never ever ever use a pressure washer on a motorcycle not only can damage the paint but it forces water where water does not belong, you are very lucky you did not fry your ECU doing that

Nobody answered his original question. How hard is it to replace the clearcoat?

There is no replacing the clear coat. The finish needs to be sanded until you have an even surface...at that point you'll need to reapply the base color and then clear coat. That's the best case....it may need to be primed, block sanded, based and clear coated depending on how things work out.

Pressure washers will tear off the top layer of old wood fencing and damage roof shingles while removing moss. They are never intended to use on any painted surfaces but i guess you know that now.

Might be best to order a new fairing from Harley, if thats possible.
